8 Tips to Increase Productivity and Get More Done in Less Time

Here are some srategies to help you increase productivity and get more done in less time.

If you often find yourself exhausted by the end of the day but still wonder what you really accomplished, it's time to apply some strategies that will help you become more productive and accomplish more in less time.

  1. Attach time frame to to-do lists. We all have written to-do lists and we know how much in reality they can get things done. Unless you attach time frame to each entry of your to-do list, you really can't expect much to get done. Beside each entry, write the start time and the time by which you need to complete it and watch how much will get done.
  2. Do only what you can handle. Taking in too many responsibilities can distract you from doing things that are really important for you. Know your limit and learn to say no when you need to, even if it means turning down one or two clients.
  3. Prioritize your day to day work. Attacking your day without a proper plan and schedule can often lead to frustration. Prioritize your to-do list and schedule your day in such a way that nothing comes in the way of these important tasks. For example, I schedule my day in such a way that the first thing I do when I switch on my computer is to look out for ideas to write new content. Only after I have come with a new article, I look forward to less important tasks like reading emails, going through website statistics, etc.
  4. Identify time wasters. A lot of time is eaten by unproductive activities like reading emails, television, chatting, etc. Identify these time wasters and schedule them at the end of the day when your energy is low and you can't concentrate on important activities.
  5. Know your worth. Decide in advance how much you need to earn this year. Assuming you work for 8 hours a day, find out the net worth of your working hour. So if you intend to earn $75000 this year, each hour is worth $38.42. Once you know this figure, you know that for every hour you wasted, you have wasted $38.42.
  6. Get help. Being productive is not working harder but working smarter. When you discover that mundane and less productive activities like typing, accounting, etc. are keeping you from spending time on creative activities that are critical for the development of your business, you need to delegate tasks to administrative services.
  7. Group similar tasks. Identify similar tasks, group them and schedule them accordingly depending on their priority. For example, instead of answering phone calls as and when they come, screen phone calls and reply to them when it suits you. This way, you can keep your energies focused on your present tasks.
  8. Write your goals and keep them posted in front of you. Having your goals in front of you act as a powerful motivator, keeping you charged all the time.
